[Watch] Retro/Tecno Episode 2 – Mortal Kombat

Welcome to another edition of Kaya 959’s Retro/Tecno!

Kaya 959 Retro/Tecno is a gaming series, where we go back to a time when we would get excited to play arcade games with our friends.

In this episode of Kaya 959 Retro/Tecno, we will be breaking down the first 3 installments of the classic fighting game, Mortal Kombat. We will delve into the inception, creation, time lines and characters of the game.

Mortal Kombat Series Breakdown

Mortal Kombat is an American media franchise centered on a series of video games, originally developed by Midway Games in 1992.

 Ed Boon and John Tobias had of making a video game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme,  who the character, Johnny Cage, is based off.

In this video, will be covering the original three games and their updates, Mortal Kombat (1992),  Mortal Kombat II (1993) Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

In the first 2 installments of Mortal Kombat, the developer and publisher Midway Games kept their single-styled fighting moves with four attack buttons for a different array of punches, kicks and blocks. The upgrade to the third installment of the game, Ultimate Mortal Kombat III, there are more robust combo and fatality set up, making is leaps and bounds ahead of its predecessor.

The series takes place in a fictional universe consisting of eighteen surviving realms which, six of the realms being: “Earthrealm; Netherrealm; Outworld; Realm of Order; Realm of Chaos & Edenia, which were all created by The Elder Gods.

Some of Earth Realm’s warriors are Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, and Jax Briggs and is protected by Lord Raiden. Some of Netherrealm warriors are Quan Chi, Scorpion and Noob Saibot, and is ruled over by the elder god, Shinok. Outworld’s is ruled by Emperor Shao Kahn, and the warriors are Reptile, Shang Tsung.

In Mortal Kombat I, seven different warriors from Earthrealm,  participated in the tournament with the prize being the continued freedom of their realm under threat of a takeover by Outworld. Among the established warriors were Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade. With the help of the thunder god Raiden, the Earthrealm warriors were victorious and Liu Kang became the new champion of Mortal Kombat

In Mortal Kombat II, Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn lures the Earthrealm warriors to Outworld, where Liu Kang eventually defeats Shao Kahn.

In Ultimate Mortal Kombat III, Shao Kahn He attempts to invade Earthrealm after successfully merging Edenia with his empire and reviving its fallen queen, Sindel, in Earthrealm,  but is ultimately defeated by Liu Kang once more. After the Kahn’s defeat, Edenia was freed from his grasp and returned to a peaceful realm, ruled by Princess Kitana.

In the world of the Protector of Earthrealm, Lord Raiden, “I Hold Out Hope That We Can Turn This Crisis To Our Advantage.”.

1.1.“Personal Information” means information relating to an identifiable, living, natural person and where it is applicable, identifiable, existing juristic person, including all information as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. 

1.2  Parliament assented to POPIA on 19 November 2013. The commencement date of section 1Part A of Chapter 5section 112 and section 113 was 11 April 2014. The commencement date of the other sections was 1 July 2020 (with the exception of section 110 and 114(4). The President of South Africa has proclaimed the POPI commencement date to be 1 July 2020.

 
1.3. “Processing” means the creation, generation, communication, storage, destruction of personal information as more fully defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.  

1.4. “You” or the “user” means any person who accesses and browses this website for any purpose. 

1.4. “Website” means the website of the KAYA 959 at URL www.kaya959.co.za or such other URL as KAYA 959 may choose from time to time.
