“My brother-in-law sent me R50k to keep quiet about his cheating.” : The Blind Spot

Katlego Sekhu

So Anonymous has a moral dilemma. She caught her brother-in-law cheating while out with her girls. After threatening to tell her sister, her brother-in-law sent her R50k as hush money. She wants to come clean, but she also needs the money. What must she do?

“A few months back, I went out with my friends to groove. It was all good until I caught my brother-in-law with another woman. Me being me, I went and confronted him, and he lied about it. He begged me not to tell my sister and has assured me that he will stop whatever it is that he’s doing.

“After the confrontation, he followed me and begged me not to tell my sister. The following morning, I received a notification of R50k in my account as hush money. My car is giving me problems, and he knows that I am desperate for money so that I can fix it. Besides me catching him cheating, he is a loving husband and a good father. I also know my sister is genuinely happy with him. So what do I do?”

Charlene, a listener, says she would rather take the money. “He will do it again, but fixing my car is more important than my sister’s feelings. You will tell her, they will fight and then make up again, and you’ll look like the bad person. I will fix my car and keep the information to myself,” she said.

Our newsreader, Ntokozo Mazibuko, says Anonymous must just tell the truth. “It’ll set you free, and it is going to come out anyway. The day it comes out, she wants to be on the right side of history.”
