South Africa is deeply saddened by the passing of the talented singer/songwriter Zahara, who passed away this week after being hospitalised in November due to “physical pains.”

Renowned singer Lira shared that Zahara reached out to her two months ago, expressing her fear following her stroke. This call came as a surprise to Lira, as Zahara had never contacted her before.

During their conversation, Zahara expressed her gratitude for the impact Lira had on her life and even sang Lira’s songs to her.

Lira suffered a stroke in 2022, which forced her to take a long break from music and focus on her recovery. Before this particular call, Zahara had never called her before.

“She thanked me for impacting her; she sang my songs to me. She was so sweet. I never thought that she’d be gone so soon. I went through denial when I first heard. Ooh Bulelwa. It is what it is,” Lira recalled, lauding Zahara for her powerful and unique voice.

“You had an iconic voice! You had a unique way of telling stories through music! The South African music industry thanks you!!! You’ve found peace now. I hope God’s love envelops you and your family. Till we meet again.”

The memorial service for late South African singer/songwriter Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana will be held on Thursday, December 14 December at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg.

This will allow her family to transport her back home to the Eastern Cape this weekend, where her funeral will take place.
