Will Smith’s earnings from the Apple TV+ film Emancipation are expected to be in the millions.

Will Smith will receive $35 million (over R600 million) for the movie, reports Variety.

Emancipation was initially scheduled for release in 2022.

The movie, which was directed by Antoine Fuqua, was postponed till 2023 as a result of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.

When Will Smith spoke with GQ in 2021, he discussed emancipation. The actor gave an explanation of why, after years of avoiding creating films on slavery, he finally decided to take the part.

“This was one that was about love and the power of Black love,”

“And that was something that I could rock with. We were going to make a story about how Black love makes us invincible.” said Smith.

The movie is said to be a very significant story of the history of African American history.

According to Wikipedia, ‘The film is based on the true story of an escaped slave named Gordon. Photographs of his bare back, heavily scourged from an overseer’s whippings, were published worldwide in 1863, giving the abolitionist movement proof of the cruelty of American slavery.’
