Earlier this week, Will Smith marked the completion of filming for ‘Bad Boys 4’ alongside Martin Lawrence, prompting discussions among the 959 Breakfast team about the necessity of another installment in the Bad Boys franchise. Mpho Maboi voiced her scepticism, expressing doubts about the wisdom of extending the series further.

Mpho questioned, “Are they attempting to emulate the success of franchises like ‘The Fast and the Furious,’ possibly aiming for a total of 10 films? I feel they’re pushing the boundaries of plausibility; they’re getting up there in age, and there’s a risk of injury.”

In contrast, Sizwe Dhlomo contended that the franchise still has potential avenues for continuation. “Consider this: Mike Lowrey could have a son who joins the force, paving the way for the next chapter of ‘Bad Boys.’ Look at how the James Bond series has evolved!”

Mpho pointed out that such plans should have been established earlier in the series, akin to the transparency in the James Bond films.

Sol Phenduka argued that franchising a film hinges on its success. “You can’t simply decide overnight to stretch a movie into nine sequels,” he remarked.

Listeners were encouraged to contribute their perspectives on this topic and discuss other films and TV series they believe have overstayed their welcome.
