Will Smith has announced the release of his highly anticipated new album, Based On A True Story, set to drop on 28 March 2025. This marks a significant return to music for the veteran actor and rapper, nearly two decades since his last studio album.

Smith revealed the news via Instagram on Friday, 14 March 2025, sharing the album cover and an unconventional track list, which he has organised into “episodes” rather than traditional songs.

The album boasts collaborations with notable artists including DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, and his son, Jaden Smith.

“It’s OFFICIAL!!,” Smith wrote in his Instagram caption. “My new album Based On A True Story drops March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all.”

The upcoming release follows Smith’s album, Lost and Found, which hit shelves on 29 March 2005.

Fans can expect a unique listening experience with the new “episode” formatted album.
