Following the tragic passing of R&B and soul DJ, Peter Mashata, his friends in the entertainment industry, including Mashabela and DJ Young, came together to pay tribute to him with a special concert on Wednesday, 24 April.
With the support of Peter Mashata’s fans, they managed to raise over R187k for the slain artist’s family. Comedian Mashabela handed the cheque over to his family.
“We did it for my best friend. Rest well, my dear friend Mashata. Thank you to everyone who support the initiative,” Mashabela expressed gratitude.
Mashata, who was laid to rest this past Sunday, was shot and killed in the early hours of the Sunday prior in Soshanguve, northwest of Pretoria.
Mashata’s mom, Rebecca, has made an emotional plea for justice.
“I want justice to be served. I am looking at the way interviews are done, and my wish is to let it just not be interviews.”
Following Panyaza Lesufi’s visit to Mashata’s family last week, his mother expressed that it should not stop there but that more should be done.
“Let it be that justice is served. It might be that they might not find the culprit but let them ask. We can’t run our country with women, children or fathers crying every week over murder.”
She also questioned the lack of police visibility in their area despite the high crime levels.
