Kelly Khumalo has been implicated in the confession of accused No.2, Bongani Ntanzi of being the mastermind who ordered the hit on her former boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa.
This after Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng ruled on Thursday, 14 March that the confessions by two of the accused, Ntanzi and Muzi Sibiya be admissable in court.
Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi previously testified that their confessions were made under duress, after being tortured and forced to sign what they say were police doctored statements of their admission to the crime.
However, Judge Mokgoatlheng ruled the two confessions were given freely, and are now being read out to the court as evidence, and implicates gospel singer Kelly Khumalo of ordering the hit.
Kelly was in a relationship with Senzo at the time of his death, and was pregnant with his daughter.
Senzo, the former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates footballer was shot and killed in an apparent botched home invasion on 26 October 2014 at Kelly’s family home.
A number of Kelly’s family members were inside the house when the five men standing trial for Meyiwa’s murder reportedly barged in demanding valuables and cash.
The men are Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli, who pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his confession, Ntanzi details how Meyiwa was shot in a scuffle, but claims Kelly ordered the hit.
“I was briefed that the person to be eliminated or killed was Senzo Meyiwa.
The matter was initiated by Kelly Khumalo, who was going to make a payment for the whole job.
We were positioned accordingly that Nkani would be the driver, Moses Sibiya will be the guard, and myself and Carlos (Mthobisi) would enter Kelly’s house.
Carlos would be outside as a backup and surveillance was conducted.
Sunday, 26 October between 19h00 and 20h00, we then proceeded to the address, and others took their positions as discussed in the planning.
When we entered the house, Carlos should in Zulu panzi (get down) and demanded money and cellphones. I started collecting cellphones and cash that was in a container.
While I was still busy, Senzo jumped on Carlos and the struggle ensued, where one shot went off, and the second shot hit Senzo as the firearm was pointed at his chest. I ran out with the money leaving Carlos behind, while Maphisa ran into the house.
I then proceeded directly to silver Polo which was parked. I waited in the car with Nkani, within a short period of time I was joined by Carlos, Muzi Sibiya and Maphisa.
We then left to Vosloorus hostel, Carlos took the cash and the cellphone from me.
At the hostel, I received an amount of R15 000 cash, I then left with Nkani to Johannesburg. The following day Nkani took me to Daveyton where I stayed for some days.
Nkani then returned and took out an amount of R30 000 and gave it to me, he further directed me to the taxis to my residence. As there was a dissatisfaction with the money, it led to a meeting in the homelands in Emahlathini.
It escalated to such an extent that Muzi Sibiya had leaked information about the incident, the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.”
