Police in Westenburg are on the hunt for 4 suspects following an attempted murder at an N1 petrol station.
The incident occurred at a Shell garage near Polokwane on Wednesday, 01 May at approximately 14h20.
According to police the truck driver who is a foreign naional was driving a work truck from Johannesburg to Polokwane.
The truck driver stopped at the petrol station to buy some cold drink and had gotten into his truck to drive away.
However, as he drove off from the petrol station, 4 unknown and armed men approached his truck from the passenger side.
The men pointed a firearm at the truck driver in an attempt to get him to stop the vehicle but he refused.
Accelerating to get away from the gunmen, the driver made a lucky escape as the shots hit the passenger window, missing the driver.
The truck driver didn’t stop, instead he drove directly to the Westenburg police station to report the incident.
Whilst at the police station, the gunmen who were passing, fired another shot at the truck driver which narrowly missed him.
A case of attempted murder was opened and police are investigating.
This latest incident comes after motorists were warned about a spike in hijackings and crimes at petrol stations.

Fleurs was shot and killed at a petrol station in Honeydew on Wednesday, 03 April at approximately 20h30.
The 24-year old PSL player was driving a red VW Golf 8 GTI and was waiting to be attended to at the filling station on 14th Avenue when he was confronted by two armed men.
The suspects who were driving a white BMW 1 series pointed a firearm at Fleurs, forcing him out of his vehicle before shooting him once on the upper body.
