NSPCA lays criminal charges against Julius Malema, for alleged cruelty to a cow.
The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) said that Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema had been charged with repeatedly inflicting pain and causing unnecessary suffering to a cow.
The cow was slaughtered as part of the party’s 10th anniversary celebrations in July at the EFF’s farm in Magaliesberg.
The animal rights organization said in a statement that it was outraged after seeing the viral footage and has received multiple complaints.
According to the NSPCA, the video recorded the planned slaughter of an animal at a farm near Magaliesberg.
In a statement released on their website, where they confirmed that they would be working closely with law enforcement to ensure there is a comprehensive investigation of the case.
“Mr Malema repeatedly inflicted pain and caused unnecessary suffering to the animal and it is evident that the animal endured significant distress.
The Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962 (“the Act”) is a crucial piece of legislation that aims to protect all animals from unnecessary pain, suffering, and cruelty. It is essential that all individuals, including public figures and leaders, who are expected to set an example, uphold and respect these laws.
After a thorough investigation into the contraventions depicted in the video, the NSPCA has laid criminal charges against Mr Malema in accordance with the Act. The NSPCA will work closely with law enforcement and the Prosecuting Authority to ensure a comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the case.” read the statement,
