Cape Town City FC has announced the departure of head coach Muhsin Ertuğral following a mutual agreement between the club and the coach.

The decision comes after extensive technical discussions, with both parties agreeing that parting ways is in the best interest of the club as they aim to finish the 2024/25 season on a strong note.

In a statement released by the club, they expressed their gratitude to Ertuğral for his ‘professional and earnest contribution’ during his tenure. The Turkish coach, who joined the club earlier this season, had a mixed run of results, which ultimately led to this decision.

Ertuğral’s time at Cape Town City was marked by both highs and lows. In January, he was named the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month after guiding the team to three victories in four matches.

This included back-to-back wins against Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, a feat that earned him widespread praise and edged out strong contenders such as Sekhukhune United’s Lehlohonolo Seema and Polokwane City’s Phuti Mohafe.

However, the team’s form dipped significantly thereafter. In the 14 fixtures under Ertuğral’s leadership, Cape Town City suffered eight defeats, managed only three wins, and recorded three draws.

According to reports, Ertuğral is believed to have cited the ‘quality’ of the playing personnel as a contributing factor to the team’s struggles.
