Somizi Mlhongo addresses abuse allegations leveled against him in 2021 by his ex Mohale Motaung at the Idols SA season 18 press conference.
In August 2021 Mohale accused Somizi of breaking his ribs and almost knocking out his teeth among other things in what he claims was a jealousy-fuelled domestic abuse while they were still living together.
Following the allegations leveled against him, Somizi took some time off from his radio show and Idols SA. He also issued a statement denying the allegations.
Somizi was asked about the allegations at a press conference hosted on Wednesday in Johannesburg to announce his return to Idols SA as a judge.
He says it was one of the toughest times of his life.
“Honestly, as you may have noticed, I’ve never spoken about everything and I believe that my private life is my private life and my work life is my work life.
“I feel like I can’t say anything at the moment and I don’t want to say anything at the moment regarding that. All I can tell you is that it was one of the toughest times of my life and my career.”
Mhlongo says he is innocent until proven guilty and that’s as far as he’ll engage on the matter for now.
“But, we move forward and like they say – innocent until proven guilty. Also, I’d like to end it there and say that’s how far I want to engage regarding your question,” he said.
